To enable us to keep our responsibility to the planet in sharp focus, we have outlined a mission statement that serves as the company’s unchanging environmental philosophy. Our environmental mission statement is ‘to help ensure a healthy environment for current and future generations’.

To continually reduce emissions of Greenhouse Gases, including CO2 from our products’ complete life cycle.
Infusing the environmental mission into the entire group
To familiarize everyone in the Bridgestone Group to the Environmental Mission Statement, it has been translated into 20 languages and is displayed in every Bridgestone Group business. Using a variety of educational platforms including environmental intranets, e-learning and training programs, we help employees understand the connection between our environmental mission and the work they do each day.
Looking ahead to the world in 2050
It is expected that in 2050, the world population is projected to reach 9.8 billion and the number of automobiles will increase to over 3 billion. Moreover, meteorologists have warned that while 2018 broke all records for greenhouse gas emissions, 2019 is slated to break that record in an even more alarming fashion.
With population growth and improved living standards impacting an increase in the demand of automobiles, the planet is slated to face significant problems in climate change, shortage of resources and loss of biodiversity. As a global company working to meet certain needs while ensuring a steady supply of quality products, we aim to balance our operations with the earth’s capacity. Towards this goal, we have a long-term environmental plan in place to carry out our activities.
In May 2012, we announced our Long-Term Environmental Vision, for 2050 and beyond, in the three areas of activity.
Contribute to globally agreed target (Over 50% reduction of CO2 emissions) At the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit (held in July 2008), G8 leaders agreed at working towards a reduction of at least 50% in greenhouse gas emissions globally, by 2050. At the Major Economies Meeting on Energy Security and Climate Change held the same year, developed countries along with emerging nations such as China and India, adopted this target as a shared global objective.
Umm Al Quwain Mangrove, UAE, Exploration & Clean Up
In partnership with Emirates Wildlife Society, 29 volunteers consisting of Bridgestone Middle East and Africa employees and their family members participated in the mangrove clean up. The eco trip ended with a cleanup activity of the mangrove area resulting in the collection of approximately 130kgs of garbage!
Supporting the Emirates’ Marine Conservation Programme
One of the missions of the Marine Conservation Programme of Emirates Wildlife Society and the World Wildlife Fund is to understand more about the migratory paths and important feeding grounds that the endangered Green Turtle uses in the region.
In support of the Programme, Bridgestone Middle East and Africa purchased symbolic turtle adoption packs which have been distributed to Bridgestone employees.
Protecting Wadi Wurayah
Bridgestone is proudly sponsoring Wadi Wurayah in Fujairah, in the United Arab of Emirates, in collaboration with Emirates Wildlife Society and in association with WWF (EWS-WWF). The mountainous and freshwater habitat shelters a rich diversity of rare and endangered species. Bridgestone aims to raise awareness of the protected area and its importance to the UAE’s natural heritage.
With the Ecopia range, Bridgestone has been at the forefront of environmentally aware innovation for many years. Ecopia tyres were first used in electric cars in Japan in 1991. Building on this promising start, they made their mark in Europe in 1999.
The tyres are available in the Middle East region and some countries in Africa.
